Future901 Endorses Heidi Kuhn for Criminal Court Clerk
Future901 is excited to endorse Heidi Kuhn for Criminal Court Clerk. We believe this is what leadership and progressive political service looks like. It is often said there is no Democratic or Republican way to run these offices, Heidi’s administration of the Clerk’s office has shown this is not true.
Before Heidi was elected, the Criminal Court’s Office was in bad shape. The previous administration had not effectively collected or disseminated payments for several years. The staff was not empowered to focus on issues affecting citizens, such as expungements, release times, or the clearing of records with the State. Since her election, Heidi has been laser-focused on improving customer service, supporting expungements, and streamlining and upgrading administrative processes.
A key campaign promise fulfilled has been her work in the expungement of cleared criminal records. Over the last 3 years, Heidi has organized 14 Community Expungement Clinics and has completed over 4100 expungements. “I am a firm believer that just because you have a past doesn’t mean you can’t have a future,” Kuhn has said. The Office’s work with expungements under Heidi has been nationally recognized, and Clerk Kuhn was recently honored with the “Change Maker” award from the Southern Justice Summit.
Heidi believes “it is important to me to lead an effective and efficient office; thus, I’ve implemented policies and procedures to aid in this goal.” Examples of this abound, including jumpstarting the moribund Odyssey Computer System project, creating a Mittimus Department to review transcripts of a conviction to aid in expediting releases, and developing an online payment system for customers to pay their fees and fines.
Congratulations Heidi on a job well-done. You clearly have earned “4 more years” and we are looking forward to seeing what it brings.
