Commemorating Tennessee’s 225th through the Works of Alan LeQuire.
What: June 2021 kicks off a year of celebrating Tennessee’s 225th year of Statehood with festivities planned from Memphis to the Tri-Cities. To enhance the experience, fans of art and history can tour the many public works of renowned Sculptor, Alan LeQuire.
LeQuire has more than a dozen monuments across the state that commemorate Nashville’s rich history. Two new ones, coming soon, will further his contributions. The exciting new Equality Trailblazers Suffrage Monument for Memphis incorporates 6 portraits in the round (including the indomitable Ida B. Wells and racial champion Mary Church Terrell) placed in front of a 60-foot wall depicting the 100 Year March in silhouette, and glass etchings and bios of many other notables from Shelby County. This monument is finished and ready for installation, and will be completed as soon as the city decides on a general contractor.
