Dwayne Thompson - Endorsed Candidate Bio
Dwayne Thompson was born and raised in Memphis. His parents came from West Tennessee and North Mississippi, both of them came to Memphis to escape poverty and find decent work.
Dwayne attended public schools in Memphis and Shelby County and was the first in his family to attend college. He graduated from the University of Memphis with a degree in Political Science and Economics and later did graduate work in Business Administration. Dwayne served his country for 6 years in the U. S. Army Reserves.
Dwayne has worked as a professional Human Resources administrator and manager for over 30 years for both public and private organizations before retiring in 2016. This has given him experience in organizational planning and helping to formulate and administer corporate budgets. It also has given him insight into how investing in people makes a company grow and prosper.
Dwayne has also been involved in the community in different ways, as a volunteer for the MS Society, Open Arms, and, as a cancer survivor, in counseling and assisting cancer patients. He has worked with his childrens’ PTA’s and with the Cordova Leadership Counsel.
He has been a sensible voice in improving the Democratic Party, making it more in tune with the concerns of regular people.

Dwayne was elected to the Tennessee House of Representatives in 2016 from District 96 which includes most of Cordova and part of Germantown. He serves on the Insurance and Banking Committee and subcommittee and the consumer and Human Resources Committee.
Dwayne has been married to Jennifer for 37 years and have two great adult children, Joseph and Grace, both graduates of Cordova High School. They are also proud grandparents of a beautiful Granddaughter. Dwayne serves as a deacon at Olive Branch Primitive Baptist Church where he has attended for many years.
