Gabby Salinas for House of Representatives District 96 Primary
Future901 is excited to endorse Gabby Salinas in the District 96 primary. District 96 is a serpentine district that stretches from north Cordova along Highway 40 and down to the area west of Overton Park. Representative Dwayne Thompson is retiring from the legislature and has endorsed Gabby to replace him and carry on his work. Gabby needs our help for the primary on August 1st. There is no Republican running in the November general election, so the primary winner will be the next Democratic representative for District 96.
Gabby is a three-time cancer survivor, scientist, and healthcare advocate. She credits her success to the Memphis community; she believes to whom much is given, much is expected. Twenty-seven years ago, her family immigrated from Bolivia to Memphis so she could receive treatment at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. While a patient at St. Jude, Gabby fell in love with science. She went on to earn a BS in Biochemistry from Christian Brothers University and a master’s in Pharmaceutical Sciences from the University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy. Her research has been published in the National Academy of Sciences. Gabby previously ran for the TN Senate in 2018 and the TN House in 2020 to advocate for Medicaid expansion, increased public school funding, common sense gun laws, and fair wages. For her community work, Gabby has been recognized in the top 20 under 30 by the Memphis Flyer and the top 40 under 40 by the Memphis Business Journal. She served as the chair of the Shelby County Democratic Party; Gabby was the first Hispanic to ever serve in that role.
In Gabby’s own words, “I want to serve as the next State Representative representing District 96. The opportunity to represent Shelby County in Nashville would be the highest honor of my life. As a working scientist and health care advocate, I have the knowledge, skills, drive, and resilience necessary to improve our community and the state of Tennessee.”
