Jerri Green For State House District 83

Future901 Friends,

We are excited to announce our endorsement of Jerri Green as she runs for Tennessee House of Representatives, District 83.  This is a critical race to unseat incumbent Mark White, who has enjoyed support from the Koch and Casada political networks (among others).  Lucky for us Jerri Green is exactly the woman for the job.  A native Memphian, a Georgetown Law graduate and a fierce advocate, she is ready for this fight.

In supporting her, it is notable that she matches up well against White on the issues.  Whereas White broke his campaign promise in acting as the deciding vote for vouchers, Green (a product of White Station High and UT Knoxville undergrad) is a staunch proponent of public schools.  Her opposition to vouchers gives the voters a clear choice on the direction of our educational system.

Similarly, Green is making healthcare a central part of her campaign.  White has failed to act as an advocate to expand TennCare with the funds available to the state under the Affordable Care Act.  This has meant 300,000 Tennesseans have gone without healthcare coverage and Shelby County’s healthcare industry has taken a needless financial hit as a result.  Moreover, White has now voted to enact an untested scheme to “block grant” our TennCare funds.  This is a move that most see as a precursor to benefit cuts to Tennessee’s disabled and seniors.  Again, White is out of step with the needs of the state and Green provides a clear alternative.

However, the thing we like most about Green isn’t her policy, but her passion.  For her, winning will mean real sacrifice as she will have to juggle raising three young children and tussling with the Nashville swamp monsters.  Thankfully for us, she is motivated enough by her desire to protect the vulnerable in our state that she is willing to enter this fight.

If elected, Green promises to bring common sense and compassion back to our capital. She will speak out against vouchers, advocate for more affordable healthcare options, and support sensible gun legislation. As a gun-violence survivor, volunteer, and marathoner, Green will be “One Tough Mother” representing her constituents’ interests in Nashville.  We hope to support her every step of the way.

Please donate to the 2020 Project and support Green and more candidates like her. 2020 is fast approaching and we need your help to flip seats in the TN House of Representatives.
