State and Local Politics

Danielle Schonbaum - Endorsed Candidate Bio

Danielle moved to Memphis as a child when her father took a position at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. His example instilled in her a greater sense of community service. Danielle is a product of Memphis City Schools having graduated from Craigmont High School, and is a proud graduate of the University of Memphis (Go Tigers Go!).  It is here that she earned a Bachelor’s of Business Administration in Accounting. She also attained a Master’s Degree in Public Policy and Administration from Northwestern University.  In addition to her previous achievements, she earned the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designations.

For over twenty years, Danielle worked in the financial service industry; she held positions in accounting, finance, credit analysis and investment management, providing a strong background to understand the budgetary issues our state faces.

More recently, Danielle transitioned to the public sector in order to more directly serve the community.  She is currently Manager of Continuous Improvement and Evaluation at the Greater Memphis Alliance for a Competitive Workforce, combining her analytical skills, financial expertise, and non-profit experience, to help strengthen the Memphis area workforce.

One of Danielle’s earliest forays in politics was working in Harold Ford, Jr.’s Senatorial campaign. She later served as moderator of political forums for the League of Women Voters of Memphis/ Shelby County and has volunteered for the Women’s Foundation for a Greater Memphis for many years. Involvement in these organizations deepened Danielle’s interest in community service, local politics and highlighted the low number of female elected officials in our community. Danielle is a graduate of the Emerge Tennessee class of 2018.

Danielle believes that for Memphis, Germantown and Shelby County to thrive that we must recognize that our interests are tied together.  She looks forward to being part of a stronger Shelby County delegation that works to serve the entire community.
